Every campsite I’ve ever visited…ever! (Since 2017)

One of the hardest parts about hitting the road is knowing where to camp.  So I’ve decided to share every single place I’ve camped–in the last 3 years, at least–to help you make your decision. I’ll post each one on my blog with a small review, and at the very least, the detailed notes that I’ve kept of each spot. Some may have photos or interesting stories to accompany the notes.

Maybe you’re one of those people who finds a great spot and then revisits it every year, maybe even several times a year.  I’m not that person. Of course, I have a few favorite spots that I like to go back to from time to time, especially with a large group–sometimes your time out in nature is less about the nature and more about the time spent with good friends.

There’s nothing wrong with going back to the same spot again and again: You have comfort knowing your surroundings, how things work, and where everything is.  But there’s a whole world out there and you shouldn’t waste too much time not seeing the rest of it.  So I hope you can use these posts to find your new spot or the spot that you plan to return to again and again.

My campsite notes include our site number, (think “Lincoln slept here,”only “Steve Mac slept here,”) the best sites in the campground and even neighboring campgrounds–even if we didn’t camp there. I’ve noted what the natural surroundings are (heavily wooded, desert, mountainous,) the quality of the site (dirty, too close together, quiet and peaceful,) and what’s nearby (Such-and-such falls is a short hike, the town of Incredibleville, and the world’s largest pair of cowboy chaps.)

I’ve even rated each campground on a 1-10 scale. Looking for hot showers or great fishing spots?  It’s in my notes. Looking for spectacular hikes, places to swim, or just the quietest campsite ever? It’s all there. My goal will be to make these notes ultimately searchable for you.  Try searching my site for what you’re looking for: “hike,” “fishing,” or “waterfall,” and see what comes up. Or check out the categories on my blog. I’ll categorize them there for sure.

My campsite notes won’t be for everyone. For starters, we live on the west coast, specifically Nor Cal. We’ll occasionally venture out to neighboring states and even less occasionally we’ll head out further.  We usually camp in developed campsites, whether that means a level pad and a fire ring, or full-blown tiled bathrooms with showers and real mirrors. Occasionally we’ll try our hand at boondocking, though not as often as I’d like.

Boondocking can be a bit scary, but Lisa and I are trying to get out of our comfort zone a bit and hit the wide-open spaces whenever the mood strikes us–read “We can’t find a site for tonight so we’ll have to pull over on this dirt road.”

I’ll add sites whenever I can, and I’ll backdate the post to the date that I camped there to make it less confusing. Of course I’ll add future sites as we discover and explore them.  I sincerely hope you can put them to good use. If so, let me know by leaving a comment.  I may have already camped in an area you’re looking at, but just not added the notes.

Hint: search for “Steve Mac Camped Here” to see every single campsite. Or just click the category link on the right.

Happy camping.
